:
Take a pause. Breathe in and for a minute visualize standing at the shore of an ocean in the darkest of night. Your eyes are looking at the edge of the ocean. Ahead of you is a beautiful, golden dawn awakening. Slow and steady, the golden rays are emerging. In your heart a new hope has awakened. A new hope for a better me. A new hope for a better world.
Shiva. The One who is known as always benefactor. Shiva is the incorporeal point of living light (Jyotirbindu). Shiva is the Creator, who performs great task of creating, sustaining and transforming the negative. Shiva is the Divine who is worshiped with such pure feelings of love, not just in Bharat but across the world. When Shivratri comes, all the devotees prepare to fast, to offer and to dance in great joy.
As we prepare externally for Shivratri, let us also take a glimpse within. In today’s time, all human souls are deeply experiencing loss of their true selves, ignorance, sorrow, peacelessness, rejection, failures…is this what the world is meant to be like? How can we bring that golden dawn in this world of extreme darkness?
Shivaratri implies that the incorporeal God (Shiva) incarnates in our world at such a time when the night of utter darkness prevails. The word “ratri” here does not recognise the darkness that falls after sunset, rather, it signifies the darkness of extreme ignorance (lack of spiritual knowledge) and unrighteousness in the world.
First it is important to understand the self and our relationship with the One Divine. Living in this 5 elements of body, covered with labels of name, duties, stories, we are an imperishable, immortal being of light. We are souls residing in this body. We are masters of our senses. We are all same; filled with peace, power, purity, love and complete truth. We all belong to the One Incorporeal Father, who is also a being of light, the Supreme Light.

As children of God, we do hold same qualities as Him. We are the perfect, sparkling, flawless diamonds when we begin our journey on this planet. As an actor takes a costume to play his part. We too take support of this body to play our part in this eternal world drama.
In the beginning of our story, we played our part with this true awareness of who we truly are. Our actions reflected our true religion of peace and purity. There was one religion, one kingdom within all of us and also in the world around us.
But nothing in this world stays new. Everything has to go through the phases of new to old. While playing our parts in our individual life, we continue to come down the ladder. Now our actions start reflecting traces of attachment, greed, ego, anger… Somewhere the true religion of the self start to fade away. We all become tangled by these layers of roles, duties, gender, religion, culture etc.
This is what brings the darkness within. The darkness of emptiness. We start stumbling in this darkness with a deep urge to return back to that perfect, flawless, golden being.
This is when all of our Eternal Father, God, comes in this world to restore the humanity in its highest stage, bring us back to our original religion of peace and purity. This is the most auspicious time of confluence between the old and new. This is elevated time when God descends to ignite the lamps of truth within all of us. Shiva creates Shivalaya for all souls; a place of complete harmony, love and sweetness.

When we all start performing our day to day activities with being soul conscious, we start to feel liberated within. We feel free from pulls of influences and desires. It is in this stage that we can connect to the Supreme Source, the Power House for the soul. This connection gives such might to the soul, that we are able to gain back our self sovereignty. The mind starts to be in our control. I think, feel and do what I wish to do. We also become free from the bondages and burdens of negative actions. We start to reform true connection with the self, with our Supreme Father and also with one another. It is said that collective consciousness of all of us, shapes the world. This consciousness of being united in love of the One, we can collectively bring back heaven in every home!
This Shivratri, let us awaken that golden dawn within. Let us come together and truly understand the Great task of God.
We invite you to visit Burlington Brahma Kumaris for Maha Darshan of 12 Jyotirlingam. In this program, you will have a great opportunity to understand Shiva’s role in your life and in humanity. A step closer to the golden dawn that we all have been searching for!
