Unity in Action: Dhwani to Host First Gujarati Indo-Canadian Candidate Meet & Greet Ahead of Brampton’s 2026 Municipal Election

BRAMPTON — It is time to take our political conversations beyond our drawing rooms and social media groups and bring them onto a meaningful community platform.

With a commitment to strengthening Gujarati Indo-Canadian participation in Canada’s democratic process, Dhwani Community Newspaper is taking an important step by organizing its first “Brampton Municipal Election Gujarati Indo-Canadian Candidate Meet & Greet”, bringing community members face-to-face with Gujarati Indo-Canadian candidates running in Brampton’s 2026 municipal election.

The purpose is simple but powerful: Meet the candidates. Hear their vision. Ask questions. Understand their priorities. Then make an informed decision before casting your valuable vote.

Voting is not only a democratic right; it is also a civic responsibility. This event will provide Brampton residents with an opportunity to hear directly from candidates about why they are running, their vision for Brampton, the issues they would prioritize at City Hall if elected, and, most importantly, how their decisions could make a difference in the everyday lives of Brampton residents.

Community members will also have an opportunity to raise concerns about municipal issues that directly affect them — including property taxes, infrastructure, traffic, public safety, city services and other local priorities.

However, Dhwani’s initiative is about something much bigger than one election. At its heart is one powerful message: UNITY.

We often discuss the need for stronger Gujarati Indo-Canadian representation at City Hall and within Canada’s decision-making institutions. But meaningful representation cannot be achieved through WhatsApp messages, endless social media debates or political conversations around the dinner table alone.

Real representation begins when a community comes together, participates in the democratic process, understands the issues, supports civic engagement and, above all, votes.

Running for public office in Canada requires courage, commitment, time and significant personal sacrifice. Dhwani therefore encourages community leaders, business owners, volunteers, professionals and residents to step forward, engage constructively with candidates and help strengthen participation in the democratic process.

And this message should not stop at Brampton.

Wherever Gujarati Indo-Canadians are running for municipal office across Canada, local communities should consider creating similar non-partisan platforms where residents can meet candidates, hear their ideas and ask meaningful questions.

One vote can change an election result. Active civic participation can help shape the future of an entire community.
