On Saturday, November 16, the spotlight shone brightly in Mexico City as Victoria Kjær Theilvig, representing Denmark, made history by becoming the first-ever Danish winner of Miss Universe. The 73rd edition of the prestigious beauty pageant brought together over 120 contestants from across the globe, culminating in a night of glamour, inspiration, and global unity.
Theilvig, a 21-year-old animal protection advocate and professional in the diamond-selling business, dazzled the judges with her poise, eloquence, and impactful messages. During the final moments, she urged the audience to “keep fighting … no matter where you come from” and declared her commitment to making history. Her powerful words and undeniable grace resonated deeply, securing her the coveted crown.
Theilvig accepted her tiara from Miss Universe 2023, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua, during a breathtaking ceremony hosted by Mario Lopez and Olivia Culpo at the 20,000-seat Mexico City Arena. The runner-up positions were claimed by Chidimma Adetshina of Nigeria, followed by Maria Fernanda Beltran of Mexico, Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand, and Ileana Marquez Pedroza of Venezuela.
This year’s pageant marked numerous milestones. Contestants from Belarus, Eritrea, Guinea, Macau, Maldives, Moldova, and Uzbekistan participated for the first time. The evening also featured a spectacular cultural performance by 131 mariachi musicians alongside Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas, performing “Mexicana,” a song composed by Emilio Estefan.
