A high-level Canadian business delegation, led by prominent community leader Nayan Brahmbhatt, has completed a successful diplomatic mission to India, holding strategic discussions with the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). The engagement aimed to solidify trade, investment, and institutional cooperation between the City of Brampton and Gujarat’s robust industrial sector.
The meeting, held at the GCCI headquarters, brought together senior leadership from both regions. The GCCI delegation was led by Chair Rajesh Gandhi and supported by Anil Jain, Chair of International Relations. The session focused on promoting Brampton’s “Invest Brampton” initiative, highlighting the city’s strategic advantages as a gateway to the North American market.
During the presentation, the Canadian delegation detailed Brampton’s economic strengths, specifically its prime location within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), its diverse, highly skilled workforce, and its world-class infrastructure. Both parties identified three priority sectors for future collaboration, focusing on import-export potential and structured engagement designed to deliver tangible business outcomes.
The delegation also shared the economic vision of Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, emphasizing the city’s commitment to global engagement and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Brahmbhatt noted that Brampton’s multicultural demographic—particularly its established Indo-Canadian community—serves as a vital asset in building trust and facilitating cross-border business relationships.
The talks included a proposal to formalize cooperation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). As an immediate next step, the GCCI invited the Brampton delegation to participate in the GATE Industrial Expo scheduled for April 2026, which is expected to be a major hub for manufacturers and investors across India.

Placing the talks within a broader national context, Brahmbhatt briefed GCCI members on federal initiatives under Prime Minister Mark Carney’s leadership. He referenced the ambitious goal of achieving a $70-billion Canada-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by 2030, suggesting that regional partnerships between cities like Brampton and states like Gujarat are essential to reaching this milestone.
Brahmbhatt also highlighted the role of the Canadian Trade Office in Ahmedabad as a resource for companies seeking market access and regulatory guidance. Furthermore, he shared insights from the Canada Hindu Chamber of Commerce (CHCC) delegation’s recent three-state visit to India, emphasizing the growing momentum of people-to-people economic ties.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Anil Jain, with participants describing the meeting as a significant step toward a more integrated economic future between Brampton and Gujarat.
