Hindu Society of Guelph Announces Candidates Meet & Greet Ahead of Municipal Election

Hindu Society of Guelph is inviting the broader Indo-Canadian community to take an active interest in Guelph’s upcoming municipal election through a free Election Candidates Meet & Greet on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The event will provide residents with an opportunity to meet mayoral and councilor candidates in person, hear directly from them and learn more about their plans for Guelph ahead of the election.

The event will be held at Kirtida Kitchen Dining & Banquet, 245 Edinburgh Road South, Guelph, Ontario. Mayoral candidates will be featured from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., followed by councillor candidates from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each participating candidate will have an opportunity to introduce themselves, explain why they are seeking elected office, and share their vision and priorities for Guelph. Candidates are also encouraged to remain for the duration of the event, giving community members an opportunity to interact with them one-on-one in an informal setting.

The Hindu Society of Guelph said the initiative is intended to encourage greater awareness and participation among Indo-Canadian residents in Guelph’s municipal democratic process. The Society emphasized that the event is non-partisan and does not constitute an endorsement, directly or indirectly, of any candidate.

Municipal elections offer residents a meaningful opportunity to help shape the future of their city. Decisions made at City Hall directly influence everyday life, including housing, property taxes, roads, public transit, infrastructure, parks and recreation, economic development and other essential city services.

The event is free and open to the community, with light snacks and hot beverages arranged for attendees. For newcomers to Guelph, as well as residents interested in learning more about municipal government and local elections, the Candidates Meet & Greet offers an accessible introduction to the local democratic process.

Hindu Society of Guelph also sees a natural connection between civic participation and the Dharmic ideal of dharma, which within Hindu thought encompasses concepts of duty, responsibility, ethical conduct and concern for the well-being of society. While dharma has a much deeper and wider meaning within the Hindu tradition, these values can find expression in contemporary civic life through thoughtful participation in the democratic process, contributing to the common good and exercising one’s right to vote.

Through the October 5 Candidates Meet & Greet, Hindu Society of Guelph hopes to strengthen civic engagement within Guelph’s Indo-Canadian community, encourage meaningful dialogue and empower community members to make informed choices at the ballot box and play an active role in shaping Guelph’s future.
